2015 Lincoln MKC

2015 Lincoln MKC

Comments:

---"Forget the Continental-like, rear-drive artillery pieces for mafiosos that we all think Lincoln Motor Company should be building. They aren’t happening anytime soon, and neither are expensive, brand-exclusive platforms, à la Cadillac."
To paraphrase Yoda from the Empire Strikes Back:
That Lincoln, is why you fail.

---"Vinyl surfaces are standard"
The Germans can get away with this, because most people don't know that they do it. American brands absolutely should not offer vinyl because it is incredibly tacky and low rent. And Lincoln has something to prove to the marketplace, while the Germans don't as much.
Other than that, this is a really good looking small SUV.

Many people here are clamoring for Ford new-but-not-for-North America Ranger, and I'd like to add my voice to that - especially if they Federalize the world-market Ranger's diesel.
But Ford won't bring it for fear that it will cannibalize F-150 sales, which is, of course, a very real possibility.
So here's my solution: alter the styling somewhat to make the Ranger a little more masculine (and more like the F-150) and change it's name to F-100, and presto! problem solved. Ford could count ALL their pick-up sales as "F-Series", and the market would get a greater selection of trucks from Ford.
Now that's what I call a win/win situation.

The curb weight comes to 1,962#, which is pretty lightweight, but I would have expected it to be much lighter.  The hybrid XL1 weighs 1749 lbs, so even though they ditched a hybrid diesel drivetrain with batteries for a lightweight motorcycle engine, the car managed to pack on an extra 213 lbs.  That's a lot of extra weight in wider rubber and flared fenders.  Apparently, they stretch the wheelbase, for who knows what reason.
And you have the high cost of that carbon fiber design and high maintenance of this bike engine.  The new Miata only weighs around 2200# and is actually a bit roomier, has steel construction, a ragtop and will be bought for a fraction of the price.  If Mazda does build a coupe it will likely be even lighter, perhaps less than 2100#.  Until then, you could build a nice FFR 818 for less than $20K, and it will be lighter than the XL sport with more power and less maintenance, but considerably less refinement.

2015 GMC Canyon

2015 GMC Canyon Commetns :

As others are saying, and as my own experience has shown me, for a little bit more money (counting rebates, discounts, incentive packages, etc.), I can get a full-sized, more powerful, more comfortable, higher tow-rated, higher trade-in value truck. The 17/24 mpg in this mid-sizer would depress me when I know I could get a Silverado 5.3 V8 that gets 16/23. If I didn't want to quibble about 1 or 2 mpg, the 6.2 V8 gets 15/21...and likely more next year with the 8 speed! However, if you live in a place like I do (the desert) only a fool keeps his vehicle parked outside a garage, so maybe these smaller GM trucks may be the only thing that can fit in one, along with the long-in-the-tooth Tacoma and Frontier.

“General Motors has done a remarkable job of keeping its GMC and Chevrolet truck brands unique…” “…pair of near-identical twins, the mid-size GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado pickups.” Huh? Which is it, remarkably unique or near-identical? The latter I think. GM has never fully realized the potential of having two separate divisions that sell trucks. And I’m never quite sure if GMC division is supposed to be the luxury side or the “professional grade” side. Cost effective development = little distinction = lack of potential = the same old sluggish P&L-first corporate mentality.

Stick the 2,4l in there and it'll get the same mileage but much better satisfaction. The cost to Subaru would be negligible, especially considering the potential uptick in sales. It's not rocket science, but then the general public has no clue and will deny evidence to the contrary and keep on being their crassly ignorant selfs. I keep telling people here that manual trans get poorer mileage than automatics, but they've been brainwashed to believe the contrary. Just like kids start smoking thinking they know better, many of us are dumb enough to choose to pay to get dissatisfied: Save us all!
